Course Overview:

Throughout the week, you'll engage in interactive lessons and hands-on practice sessions that build upon each other to enhance your public speaking abilities. Here's a breakdown of what you'll learn each day:

🗣️Day 1: Introduction to Speech Types

• Get introduced to the 8 NSDA speech formats.
• Engage in discussions to understand the unique characteristics of each format.
• Choose a format to focus on for the rest of the week.

🗣️Day 2: Speech Techniques Part 1 + Drills

• Dive into foundational techniques of effective speech delivery.
• Participate in meticulously designed drills to start honing your skills.

🗣️Day 3: Speech Techniques Part 2 + Speech Practice

• Build on the previous day's foundation with advanced speech techniques.
• Engage in structured practice sessions and receive feedback to refine your delivery.

🗣️Day 4: Refining Speeches

• Collaborate closely with mentors to practice your speeches.
• Focus on refining content, improving delivery, and perfecting overall presentation.
• Receive individualized feedback to make necessary adjustments.

🗣️Day 5: Showcase

• Present your speeches to an audience of peers and parents.
• Demonstrate the skills and techniques developed throughout the week.

Meet Your Instructors:

Our instructors are passionate and accomplished students with extensive experience in public speaking:

• Claire Gao has studied multiple styles of debate, including World Schools Style and Public Forum. She has competed and ranked in various Public Forum middle school varsity competitions at both national and county levels. Additionally, she was selected as a debate instructor at her local Chinese school and a separate academy due to her extensive debate experience.
• Olivia Huang has been taking public speaking and debate courses since 2017. Speech has made a huge impact on her life, teaching her how to critically think, speak confidently, and express her ideas. As a rising sophomore at Livingston High School, Olivia has competed and won awards on both the local and national circuit, such as earning a 2nd place award at National Online Forensics Walnut Tournament, semi-finaling Harvard’s National Forensic Tournament, and octo-finaling Lakeland’s Westchester Classic. She has also taken Humorous and Dramatic Interpretation courses, Original Oratory and Communication Courses, Public Forum debate courses, and acting courses.
